RIM reveals a workaround for the Blackberry

February 9th, 2006 by Marston

In order to continue US operation of blackberry devices and servers, RIM has developed a “workaround” software contingency plan. It is a user-installed software update for the devices and backend servers which will show no difference in the way the devices operate in the current day nor will it affect any of the programs written for the device.

“RIM recently announced details of a software update (named BlackBerry Multi-Mode Edition™) that has been designed and tested as a contingency to allow RIM partners and customers to continue to use the BlackBerry service should the court implement an injunction in the current litigation involving the NTP patents.”

You can find more information about this workaround from RIM themselves here: http://www.blackberry.com/workaround
