Google Page Creator Released

February 23rd, 2006 by George Burnett

Google PagesGoogle has released a Web 2.0 editor. Check it out. Google Page Creator is a free online tool that makes it easy for anyone to create and publish useful, attractive web pages in just minutes. It would be cool if Google used this engine on blogger.

UPDATE:
Nik Cubrilovic of TechCrunch is playing devils advocate with his article “Another Google Miss”, describing the reasons why Google Pages and previous Google beta software releases just aren’t up to par. It is an interesting read so go check it out.

UPDATE 2:
As of 2/23/2006 :: 05:43 PM PST Google is no longer allowing access to this new service. They have stated the following:

Thank you for your interest in Google Page Creator! Google Page Creator has experienced extremely strong demand, and, as a result, we have temporarily limited the number of new signups as we increase capacity. In the meantime, please submit your email address and we will notify you as soon as we are ready to add new accounts. Thank you for your patience.

It is rather clear where this is going in terms of Google strategy.

    Here’s my line of thought:

Fact: Google is creating all the elements that a business owner needs to start a business online.

    - Payment solution (announced recently)
    - Blogger to connect with customers
    - Advertising (adsense/ adwords)
    - email and chat
    - Analytics to attract and retain customers efficiently.
    - Product exposure tools (Froogle)

One thing they need to increase the market for all these products is to give the little man an easy way to become a virtual store owner. This is how eBay makes a substantial amount of money.

So Google will give people the ability to create their own websites with all the elements they need to become merchants. Google pages is their first take at the tool which will tailor those sites.
