Powerset vs. Google on Wikipedia

May 13th, 2008 by George Burnett

Here is a quick comparison between Wikipedia, Powerset & Google of the search term “Who is the princess of Wales?” Lets take a quick look;

Wikipedia Results

Wikipedia clearly shows that Camilla is the current princess.

Google’s Results

Google nails the results perfectly!

Powerset’s results

Powerset doesn’t even show Camilla’s name in their results :(

As you can see both search engines eventually come up with the same result all though Powerset doesn’t seem to get it right away. Powerset is supposed to have a bit of smarts under the hood, not just searching through a “word bag” and spewing out unintelligible results. In the end Google still comes out the winner in my book. If you would like to give this process a shot your self try searching for “Who was the 4th man on the moon?”
